The Restaurant Alter Hof is Munich’s number one address if you are looking to enjoy original Franconian wine and cuisine right in the centre of the Bavarian capital. The atmosphere in our restaurant in the heart of Munich is both cosy and modern. Here, the building’s history, which stretches back as far as the 12th century, has been brought back to life. Back then, a castle complex stood at this very spot, and the Alter Hof went on to become an imperial residence during the rule of Ludwig the Bavarian. That means that while our kitchen and service teams are spoiling you in our restaurant in Munich, you also happen to be in one of Munich’s oldest and most historic buildings. The two parts of the Alter Hof that are especially worth preserving historically – the Burgstock and Zwingerstock wings – have now been renovated by the Free State of Bavaria.
With its historical flair, the Alter Hof provides the perfect setting for savouring traditional Franconian wines and delicacies in Munich. Each one of our restaurant team is connected to the region of Franconia in some way. We all share a love for the wines and typical cuisine of Franconia, and we take great pleasure in offering you the best from the region in our restaurant, each and every day. This, of course, not only includes regional dishes, but, above all, fine Franconian wines. There is something for every wine lover in our 40 square-metre (430 square-foot) wine bar, and the Alter Hof is the only restaurant in Munich where you can drink three types of Federweisser wine: Federweisser, Federroter and Federrotling.
Our restaurant’s service and kitchen teams work to the highest professional standards. They have an excellent knowledge of the region and its delicacies, and are always delighted to give you one or two recommendations to help you enjoy our Franconian cuisine. Our restaurant in Munich puts great emphasis on hospitality and a love for Franconia. Our guests experience these qualities in a unique way and in the extraordinary atmosphere of the Alter Hof.
